Fair Silver was born out of a desire to bring about affordable, high quality silver jewellery, but not at any cost to the people that produce it. Rossana is Mexican and has seen the result of mafia run enterprises throughout Mexico, and the human cost that results from continual search for lower prices that many Western retailers seek. Fair Silver is a small company that works closely with individual or small groups of silversmiths in Mexico, to ensure that there is no mafia involvement in the production of our products. We have met all of the silversmiths we work with, and have seen directly the benefits to them of simply paying up-front for their goods, and offering a fair price. These are the fundamental tenets of Fairtrade. Our prices and the quality of our products show that it is possible for the producer (and hopefully us) to make a living out the production and sale of jewellery, as long as no one person in the chain is too greedy.
